The Welsh Government has confirmed its support of Narberth Food Festival by again awarding us a grant. With no European funding available, though, the grant was less than last year’s.
To help make up the shortfall - and make the 14th festival yet again the best ever - Festival chairman Lynne Crompton has come up with an idea that puts the fun into fundraising.
We’ve had a record number of applications from stallholders old and new, including many local start-up businesses.
NB Official deadline for discounted applications is 31 May but our initial selection meeting will be on 28 May.
Good food isn’t only found in Narberth on one weekend each year. Whether it’s award-winning meat and cheese, sweet treats, luxury ice-cream, specialist groceries or everyday necessities, they can all be found on Narberth’s thriving high street.

Congratulations, Karl!

Karl Jones Hughes, multi-award-winning head chef at Narberth’s
Plas Hyfryd Hotel, has done it again. Competing for the title of National Chef of Wales at last week’s bi-annual Welsh International Culinary Championships, Karl found himself in what the chairman of judges described as the contest’s closest ever final. Karl’s three-course menu for four people, prepared in front of the judges and a large audience, earned him the Silver medal. We’re particularly pleased for Karl as he’s a long-time friend and supporter of Narberth Food Festival.

New Faces on Festival Committee

This year we have said a sad farewell to
Jackie Palit, the driving force behind Narberth Food Festival from its beginning. Jackie is moving to Aberystwyth where she will be closer to children and grandchildren. We’re hugely grateful for all that Jackie has done to make our festival a unique event with a friendly atmosphere all its own.
We’re glad, though, to welcome some new faces to the committee. Liz Hobbs of The Soap Shed brings her experience as a stallholder at Narberth and other festivals, while Donna Harding, of Giddy Aunt, gives us another link with Narberth’s High Street traders. Donna and other new committee member Alison Ellis have also manned(?) the festival bar since it started three years ago. The job of site manager has become ever more demanding as the festival has grown and we’re pleased that Charlie Ellis has offered to become assistant site manager.
All members of the committee are volunteers, as are all those who help during the festival. If you are interested in helping in any way please talk to a member of the committee.

More Awards for Festival Regular
Congratulations to multi-award-winning Narberth butcher
Andrew Rees on his latest success.
At the recent Butcher Shop of the Year Awards in London, Andrew collected the award for
Best Butcher Shop in Wales and was also named UK runner up.
Andrew is a regular stallholder at Narberth Food Festival and a long-time supporter of Education Day, where his hands-on sausage making activity is always popular with local primary school children.
The picture shows Andrew with current festival chairman Lynne Crompton and some of the original recipe sausages he made especially for Festival week 2011.
